Defined Benefit Pension

A pension promising a set income for life, calculated from your salary and years of service, rather than a pot of money. Also called final salary or career average. Common in the NHS, teaching, the civil service and the armed forces. Very valuable, and the transfer value quoted on divorce can understate what the benefits are really worth.
