A preference, not a compromise

Asking for a woman does not mean settling for less. Every adviser here holds the same FCA authorisation as anyone else you would be referred to.

Regulated, and checkable

Each firm is authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority. You can verify any of them on the FCA Register before you make contact.

Nearest first, honestly

If there is no female adviser close to you, we will say so and tell you how far the nearest one is, rather than quietly sending you to someone else.

What they can help with

Common questions

Can I ask to see a female financial adviser?

Yes. You are entitled to ask any firm for a female adviser, and a good firm will accommodate it without making it awkward. If you tell Helena you would prefer to speak to a woman, we will look for a female adviser in your area first and tell you honestly if the nearest one is some distance away.

Does it matter whether my financial adviser is a woman?

Professionally, a female adviser is not better qualified than a male one — they hold the same FCA authorisation and the same qualifications. What many women tell us matters is the conversation: being able to talk about a divorce, a bereavement or a career break without feeling they have to justify it. If that makes the difference between getting advice and avoiding it, it is a reason worth taking seriously.

How many financial advisers in the UK are women?

Women remain a minority of qualified financial advisers in the UK — industry estimates have consistently put the figure at around one in six. That is why finding one locally can be harder than it should be, and why we list the women in our network separately.

Are these advisers regulated?

Every adviser listed on Helena is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. You can check any firm or individual on the FCA Register before you speak to them, and we would encourage you to.

What does it cost to make an enquiry?

Nothing. Enquiries through Helena are free and carry no obligation. Advisers set their own fees and should explain them clearly before you commit to anything.
